Rolls-Royce 20/25 - dismantling damper

removing the springs

The damper is loosely fitted to the mandrel. Two pin punches are used as pivots for a lever to compress the damper springs, which is quicker than fitting the Test Bar.

concentric springs

There are two concentric springs in each aperture. Note the corrosion on the outer springs. All springs will be replaced before re-assembly.

removing centre disk

When one set of springs is removed the opposing set will relax and drop out, which allows the rear element of the damper to slide down the mandrel.

disk back

The rear friction face of the driven disk. Corrosion is evident over the whole surface of the friction face.
