R-R PIII - crankshaft damper #1 The damper flywheel has had the mating faces and centre disk re-ground to remove the corrosion (see earlier pictures).  New linings have been fitted and the correct slip poundage of 20lb has been set.  Note the smaller fibre washer inserted in the recess in the gear.
R-R PIII - crankshaft damper #2

Crankshaft drive gear has been inserted and the eight pairs of springs are in place.  It is most IMPORTANT to remember to attach the two fibre washers at either end of the gear before assembly.  Care must be taken to seat the inner springs onto the lugs and the outers into the rebates.

The woodruff key on the starter dog is to locate the fan belt pulley.

My method of inserting the springs is shown on 9th February (2002).

R-R PIII - crankshaft damper #3 The final view.  Note, however, that the spacer and starter dog are not yet attached.  The damper can not be attached until the camshaft has been installed and timed.  The damper is held on the crankshaft by the notch nut shown in the top picture.
